GSThis page is designed specifically for users of Roland's advanced Sound Canvas models; in particular, the ED SC-8820, SC-D70, and SC-8850 sound modules. With over 1600 sounds to choose from, conversion from Sierra's Roland MT-32 MIDI soundtracks is as close as it gets with these modules. You will find that some of the soundtracks on this page may also support the Roland SC-88 and SC-88 Pro. Be sure to read the file description's "Support" line for compatibility.

PLEASE NOTE:
Many of these song files contain embedded System Exclusive messages and Insertion Effects which can only be read properly by the Roland ED SC-D70, SC-8820, SC-8850, and SC-88 PRO sound modules. Although many of these MIDI files may play on the Sound Canvas SC-55, they will lack the proper sounds, full characteristics, and the sound quality produced by the SC-88 Pro, SC-D70, SC-8820, and SC-8850 sound modules.
THESE MIDI FILES ARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE ROLAND ED VSC-88H SOFTWARE SYNTHESIZER.

The ED MIDI files on this page were created using the Roland ED SC-8820 Sound Module.

Don't forget to check out the SC-55 GS Sierra Soundtracks page....

Roland ED GS Version
Adventures Of Willy Beamish
"West Frumpton" by Don Latarski and Christorpher Stevens. The game presents many challenges for converting to any other format beyond the original MT-32 version. (A lot of strange instruments are used.) But heck, it's worth a try.

Roland ED GS Version
Adventures Of Willy Beamish
"Carbuncle" by Don Latarski and Christorpher Stevens. I've never paid attention at how much the standard MT-32 "Doctor Solo" patch was used in this game. An Ogg version of this song file (recorded from the SC-8820) is also available.

  SUPPORT:  SC-D70 / SC-8820 / SC-8850

Code-Name: Iceman
"Whitney" by Mark Seibert. A wonderfully enhanced version arranged by Matze for the Roland Sound Canvas SC-8850, which also plays very well on the SC-8820.

Code-Name: Iceman
"Dancin' -- Part One " by Mark Seibert. I really like this song in any format it's presented in. Oh yeah...it's also available in Ogg Vorbis digital format.

Roland ED GS Version
Colonel's Bequest
"Victrola Music #225" by Ken Allen. Each time I convert this for a new platform, I like it better! This version includes an authentic 'scratchy phonograph' track, just like the original MT-32 sequence. A new MP3 version of this soundtrack (recorded from the SC-8820) is also available.

Roland ED GS Version
Colonel's Bequest
"Victrola Music #221" by Ken Allen. More from the Colonel's victrola. Although mixed for ED, this song file has limited compatibility with any Roland GS device. (SC-55 users will miss out only on a small amount of the enhancements.)

Roland ED GS Version
Eco Quest - The Search For Cetus
"Cetus" by Chris Brayman. I couldn't really translate t
his song well for General MIDI, unless I wanted to do away with some key sounds. The SC-8820 and 8850 handle the sounds quite well.

Roland ED GS Version
Freddy Pharkas Frontier Pharmacist
"Sweet Penelope" by Aubrey Hodges. A sweet song that plays on the FP theme very nicely. This is a slightly enhanced arrangement which is based upon the original General MIDI version. A digital "Ogg" recording is also available.

Heart Of China
"Introduction & Opening Themes" by Don Latarski and Christopher Stevens. Heart Of China uses a lot of custom MT-32 sounds that, up until now, have been nearly impossible to translate for anything other than the original MT-32. I spent many hours on this conversion and I think I now have a handle on it.

Heart Of China
"Orient Express - Part 3 " by Don Latarski and Christopher Stevens. Yes, praise be! I found my train whistle and 'resin city' strings! This file will also support the SC-88 Pro, but without the train whistle. Sorry.

Jones In The Fast Lane
"Socket City Appliance Store" by Ken Allen. Arrangement by Quest Studios. This version goes a bit beyond the GM and MT-32 arrangements by adding horns, sax, scat, guitars, and enhanced percussion. A MP3 of this SC-8820 soundtrack is also available.

Jones In The Fast Lane
"QT Clothing " by Ken Allen. This is a rather short loop, but I like the theme and wanted to convert it for ED . . . so here it is.

King's Quest 1
Quest For The Crown

"Giant In The Clouds" by Ken Allen. This was a bit tricky. Most everything was able to convert -- but that "Ken Allen Fantasia" slowed me down a bit. I ended up with an 'atmosphere' variation played at thirds.

Absence Makes The Heart Go Yonder

"The Dark Forest" by Mark Seibert. Oooh, spooky! I still wasn't able to convert all of the sounds heard in the forest, but most are there. It still has that nice, dark feel to it. The owl and tree frog were replaced by a cat, and some other creature I threw in. All the other forest sound are intact.

Absence Makes The Heart Go Yonder

"The Hermit" by Mark Seibert. Sort of a cute tune that's been slightly enhanced from the original MT-32 version. A MP3 of this song is also available.

Passionate Patti Does A Little Undercover Work

"Tramp Casino - Part Two" by Craig Safan. Complete with all those nifty background 'casino' sound effects heard in the MT-32 version.

Police Quest 1
In Pursuit of the Death Angel

"Closing Themes " by Rob Atesalp. Lots of heavy-duty guitars in this one. They seem to be much more convincing on the Sound Canvas rather than the MT-32 for this kind of music. I took special notice to make this compatible with the SC-88 Pro as well.

Police Quest 3
The Kindred

"Marie's Theme" by Jan Hammer. I'm pleased to finally be able to present this accurate translation of the beautiful MT-32 sequence that's heard as Marie lies wounded in the hospital. Complete with a realistic heart monitor and the 'Invisible' melody lead.

"The Burning House " by Jan Hammer. Like "Marie's Theme", this song utilizes a couple of sounds not available under GM or standard GS, so . . .

Quest For Glory 3
Wages Of War

"Garden At The Top Of The Tree" by Rudy Helm. Rudy's vocal soundtrack is very interesting when torn apart, track by track. But Instead of relying on the limited choirs of the SC-55, this arrangement exploits several different choir voices.  A MP3 version of this soundtrack (recorded from the SC-8820) is also available.

The Sarien Encounter

"Two Guys' Commentary" by Ken Allen. You can die dozens of ways in this game, but you don't always get to hear this music when you do.  A MP3 version of this soundtrack (recorded from the SC-8820) is also available.

Roger Wilco & The Time Rippers

"Monochrome Bikers" by Ken Allen. A pretty straight-forward conversion that takes advantage of the SC's feedback and distortion guitars. The bass and organ maintain Ken Allen's MT-32 original selections.
